The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) provides for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods in the City of New York and maintains and enhances the transportation infrastructure crucial to the economic vitality and quality of life of City residents. The Office of Cityscape & Franchises oversees a wide range of programs related to the installation, operation, and management of various streetscape elements citywide. With the significant growth of the agency’s Plaza and Open Street programs, as well as an increase in other concession opportunities on DOT’s right-of-way, the Office is planning to rapidly expand its concession program. The Office is seeking two City Planners to assist with that effort. Specifically, the City Planner will assist with the planning, coordination and management of concessions (including concessions supporting the citywide Plaza and Open Streets programs), public toilet installations, franchises including historic ones, and other programs managed by the unit. In addition, the successful candidates will support the unit Director with contract management, program management, coordination and development of the unit’s tracking database project, electronic file and database management in addition to community outreach, submissions to the Public Design Commission, Community Board presentations, communication and coordination with various Business Improvement Districts, other not-for-profit and private entities, and senior level staff. The candidates should have excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills. TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF CITY PLANNER, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE CITY PLANNER CIVIL SERVICE LIST. CITY PLANNER - 22122 Minimum Qualifications 1. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or a related field; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning such as in the review and development of housing, transportation, environmental, and city-owned land planning projects; or 3. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to "1" above. Graduate education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college or university for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree. 4. To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, two additional years of professional experience as described in "2" above. Preferred Skills Self-driven, excellent organization and project management skills ability to manage and track multiple programs and legal documents.Database management skills, prior experience working with elected officials, community groups desired.Comfortable with reading and interpreting legal documents.Experience with PowerPoint presentations and meeting facilitation, drafting and design with desktop publishing (InDesign, Illustrator or CAD) skills a plus. 55a Program This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
